DURBAN - A fire broke out at a warehouse at the Beachwood Country Club in Durban on Wednesday evening.

Mobi-Claw911 said in a statement, on its Facebook page, that they received a panic alert from a client reporting a fire at the country club on Wednesday evening.

“MC911 Cyber Control incident manager immediately broadcast the incident to the fire department and local volunteers. Both the volunteers and fire department were quickly on the scene, where the fire was discovered to be at a warehouse where the golf carts were housed,” said the statement.

The company further added that the fire was brought under control however it had ravaged the warehouse.

“Thank you to the eThekwini Fire Department and volunteers that attended so quickly and extinguished the blaze,” Mobi-Claw911 said.

EThekwini fire department divisional commander Bruce de Gier said they received a call around 6.38pm about a fire at the Beachwood Country Club.

He said more than 50 golf carts that were in the warehouse were burnt.

“The building was badly damaged, there was also damage to some charging and pumping equipment. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage however there are investigations that will take place,” said De Gier.

The Goo’s On Beachwood issued a statement on its Facebook page to assure its customers that it was not affected by the fire.

“Thank you for the calls and messages of concern. The restaurant and country club were not affected by the fire, and thankfully no injuries,” said the statement.

The Beachwood Country Club’s general manager could not be reached for comment by the time of publication.
