DURBAN - In a Facebook post on Monday, snake rescuer Nick Evans released video footage of the 2.72m black mamba he rescued after it slithered into a Reservoir Hills family’s home in May.

Evans said it was an 'exciting' day for the Reservoir Hills family and an interesting call for him.

“Back in May, a family were in the kitchen when they heard some commotion by the front door, ahead of them. They looked up and saw this large black mamba entering their home! I think many people would have fainted at this point,” he said.

When the snake got closer, one of the family members lifted a chair to scare it off.

“When it saw this, the mamba raised its head up slightly, in fright, and swerved left, going down the passageway,” said Evans.

The snake quickly slithered into a bedroom and the owner of the home slammed the door to trap the snake.

In an account of the rescue posted on Facebook in May, Evans said that as he approached the bedroom door, he could hear the snake. Later, he discovered it was 2.72m long and weighed 2.85kg.

“I opened the door, and sprawled out across the wooden floor, was this massive black mamba! It was such a weird, crazy sight, I just had to take a pic. Of course, the mamba saw me, freaked out and dashed under the bed,” he said.

Evans managed to pull the snake out as it went under the bed and moved under a cabinet.

He said that while the rescue was a little tricky because of the slippery floor, the snake was not difficult to catch.

“The family were shaken up, and so was the mamba. He didn't enjoy the experience either,” said Evans in Monday’s post.
