Durban – A woman was attacked while waiting to enter the property she rents in the Lotusville area of Verulam on Thursday.
Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram said the woman was standing outside the property on Cassia Road on Thursday afternoon when she was approached by a man.
Balram said Rusa received a call from the homeowner just before 4pm about the incident.
“CCTV footage showed the female waiting on the driveway when a lone suspect approached her and robbed her of her laptop and cellphone,” he said.
According to Balram, the suspect was armed with a knife.
He fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction, he said.
In the video, the woman is seen standing on the driveway, facing the driveway gate when a man walks past on the other side of the road.
As the man walks down the road, he looks at the woman then turns around and approaches her.
He raises one hand as he gets closer to the woman. She sees the man and begins running towards the gate.
While running the woman slips and falls and her belongings scatter. He runs after her and is seen picking up something from the floor. He then walks towards the woman, who quickly gets up and moves to the other side of the driveway.
The man is seen picking up something else before he flees the scene.
