A FLYING Squad vehicle damaged by shots fired by hijacking suspects in Hammanskraal on Sunday.
Pretoria - Two suspects were arrested on Sunday afternoon by the Tshwane Flying Squad members for possession of unlicensed firearms, among other charges.

The arrest took place in Majaneng in Hammanskraal.

Police spokesperson Captain Pinky Tsinyane said the officers were on patrol when they spotted two suspects at the main road next to Q4 Mashego Garage. The suspects were trying to hijack a bakkie from a local businessman, when the members responded.

“When the police arrived the suspects tried to flee the scene by quickly jumping into a white Mercedes-Benz and speeding off.

“A chase ensued; and realising that officers were following them, the suspects opened fire on the members, who retaliated.”

The suspects lost control of their vehicle and drove into a yard, where they came to a standstill. Two suspects were arrested on the scene and two firearms (pistols) were recovered.

One of the suspects was shot

during the shoot-out.

Although no officer was injured, their vehicle was damaged.

Investigations are continuing while the preliminary reports revealed that the white Mercedes Benz used as the getaway car was reported stolen during a house robbery at Akasia.

Two suspects aged between 30 and 35 will be appearing in Hammanskraal Magistrate's Court soon facing charges of attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, malicious damage to state property and possession of a stolen vehicle. Staff Reporter
