#SchoolSport | Future talent recognised at the Gauteng School Sport Awards

The fifth edition of the Gauteng School Sport Awards was held at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg on Friday night, March 9.

The evening event saw winners in 14 categories being recognised for their excellence in school sports achieved last year.

Accolades of acclaim were presented to the young athletes, school teams, coaches, officials and institutions of learning which excelled to great heights over the past year.

Three-times Coach of the Year Nkosilathi Moyo walked away with the Administrator of the Year award.

Young athletes Tebogo Mncube, Kayla le Grange, Sokwakhana Zazini and Takara Kruger were kings and queens of school sport. Tebogo was Male Athlete of the Year and Kayla Female Athlete of the Year at primary level.

At secondary level Sokwakana took the male award and Takara the female accolade.

LSEN school individual awards were captured by Mandilene Hoffman (LSEN School Female Athlete of the Year) and Alwanda Skosana (LSEN School Male Athlete of the Year).

“Congratulations to all the winners for making us ever so proud by living up to affirming Gauteng as the ‘Home of Champions’," says Faith Mazibuko, the MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation.

“The province will continue making it possible for young talent to be identified, nurtured and recognised so that it meets its full potential.”

The awards ceremony is organised and hosted in a partnership between the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation and the Gauteng Department of Education.

Team of the Year: Loratong Primary School - (Netball)

Primary School of the Year: Danie Malan Laerskool.

LSEN School of the Year: Elandspark School

Secondary School of the Year: Queens High School

Code of the Year: Rugby

Primary School Male Athlete of the Year: Tebogo Mncube - Troyeville Primary School (Volleyball)
