Durban - Continuous water shortages in Everest Heights, Verulam has left residents frustrated with many seeing no end in sight.

However the City said it was doing everything in its power to return the situation to normalcy.

Since February there has been on average three water cuts a week.

One resident Leon Rajoo says that he had lost hope.

“It’s been happening so many times I have taken it as normal now, because every time we send a complaint the same response is copied and pasted to us," said Rajoo.

PR ward councillor Yogis Govender said he believes that the municipality has neglected this area and the development of its reservoirs.

“The municipality has not taken care of the  reservoirs in this area that is why the community is facing the problems that they are facing today,”said Govender.

Spokesperson for the eThekwini Municipality Msawakhe Mayisela says that the city is doing everything possible to assist.

“We are doing everything in our power to return the situation to normalcy in this part of the city."

He said the City is contending with aging infrastructure and theft of our valves.
