Two dead in separate crashes on Durban's R102

Durban - Two people were killed an hour apart in two separate accidents on the R102 in Verulam on Saturday.

According to Prem Balram, director of Reaction Unit South Africa, the first incident took place at around 10am at the Verulam and Ottawa intersection. 

"Upon arrival two women were found lying on the road after they were ejected from a Toyota Corolla. The driver was fatally injured and died at the scene. A female passenger was seriously injured and was transported to Osindisweni Government Hospital by ambulance."

Balram said at around 11:20pm, a second person was killed after the bakkie he was driving overturned on the south bound lane of the R102 between the Verulam and Ottawa intersection. 

"Paramedics arrived at the scene and found an Isuzu bakkie lying on its side. The driver of the vehicle suffered life threatening injuries and died at the scene. Medics and Firemen freed the deceased from the mangled wreckage.

Balram said SAPS were on scene.
