Durban - The two Durban metro police officers who were assaulted with bricks during a service delivery protest in Isipingo on Monday are back at work.

According to metro police spokesperson Parbhoo Sewpersad, violent protests erupted in the area over issues of electricity.

"Half of the shack dwellers had access to electricity while some didn't. They began protesting and burnt a transformer and tyres."

Sewpersad said during the violent protests two police officers - Constable Eugene Naidoo was struck with a brick on his forehead while Captain Jerry Govender was hit with a brick on his back.
