Police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said the men were arrested by police officers from the Ilembe Cluster Task Team and Umhlali K9 Unit during an intelligence-driven operation.

"Three suspects aged between 42 and 48 were arrested at Mabhobhane and Enhlangwini areas after they were found in possession of three homemade shotguns and a handgun. All firearms had one round of ammunition each."

Gwala said a 42-year-old suspect from Enhlangwini was found with a homemade shotgun and a handgun.

"Other two suspects were found with a homemade shotgun each. Police proceeded to Endanyini area where another suspect was arrested. A 39-year-old suspect was found with a pistol in his possession and he was immediately arrested. His firearm had its serial number filed off."

She said the arrested suspects will be profiled to determine if they can be linked to any serious and violent crimes in the area.
