Durban - A 25-year-old man who slit a man's throat at a hostel in KwaMashu was sentenced to 15 years in jail.
Nkanyiso Daniel Mhlongo appeared in the Verulam Regional Court this week.
The victim Dumisani Luthuli, 33, was killed in December 2017.
He was stabbed and thereafter his throat slit.
According to KZN police spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala, the accused Mhlongo had approached Luthuli and his friends at the Khowla Road hostel when an argument ensued.
“The accused had an argument with the victim resulting in the stabbing of the victim whose throat was also slit. A case of murder was opened at KwaMashu police station for further investigation."
Gwala said a comprehensive investigation by detectives led to the arrest of the accused in Maphumulo.
"He was arrested and brought to book. He made several court appearances until he was convicted and sentenced by the Verulam Regional Court.”
