Durban — The Durban Chamber of Commerce and KZN Growth Coalition have given the eThekwini Municipality’s Festive Season Management Programme a thumbs up.
This is as the municipality is gearing up to welcome thousands of holidaymakers due to descend on its shores for the summer holidays.
This was revealed in a joint statement by the municipality, Durban Chamber of Commerce and the KZN Coalition, speaking on the city’s state of readiness for the festive season.
Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda said the city was ready to roll out the red carpet to visitors this festive season.
He said safety plans were in place to ensure safe and fun-filled holidays.
“The safety and security of residents and visitors continues to be a priority. Our law-enforcement officials and lifeguards have undertaken rigorous training to ensure they are ready to protect visitors and residents. Working in partnership with SAPS, we will ensure that this festive season is free of any criminal incidents, but we can only achieve this when we work with the members of the public,” Kaunda said.
The statement said organised business through the Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industries, South African Property Developers Association (KZN) and KZN Growth Coalition, have thrown their weight behind the city. They have agreed to a technical war room as a partnership platform to collaborate in addressing infrastructure constraints.
KZN Growth Coalition chief executive Moses Tembe said eThekwini was the only metro in the province and therefore must always be exemplary. He has called upon the city not to disappoint again this festive season.
“During December all roads lead to eThekwini. It is therefore incumbent on the city to ensure that it meets all the needs of its visitors. Every festive season the city has a responsibility that all visitors automatically become its ambassadors. It can only achieve that by getting its house in order and being hospitable. We commend the city for the work it has done so far and wish them well as they continue to fix infrastructure and welcome visitors,” Tembe said.
