Durban — A 38-year-old man is expected in court on Monday (today) after he was arrested for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

According to a success report received by the Daily News, on Friday, officers from Umbilo circulated a suspicious silver Toyota Etios with four males with no registration number.

At 1pm, two sergeants from Ethekwini District Trio Tracing spotted a silver Toyota Etios with four males in it in the Cato Manor area.

“Members stopped the vehicle. Three males alighted from the vehicle and fled into the bush. Members managed to apprehend one suspect with one 9mm pistol with serial number erased and 15 live rounds. The suspect was charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” the information read.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said: “We can confirm the 38-year-old man was arrested on November 4, 2022, after he was found in unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. The suspect is appearing before the Durban Magistrate’s Court today (Monday).”
