DURBAN - A man survived an execution-style shooting in the early hours of Monday morning.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said Netcare 911 responded to a shooting on 211444 Street in KwaDabeka, Pinetown, west of Durban, at 12.14am.

Herbst said reports indicated that residents heard a noise in a bush and went to investigate.

“After locating where the noise had come from, they found an adult male unresponsive in a pool of blood,” Herbst said.

“When medics arrived on the scene, they found that the patient had sustained critical injuries after being shot in the back of his head.”

Herbst said the man was treated on scene by Netcare 911 emergency care practitioners and once stabilised was rushed through to the hospital for further care.

He said circumstances leading up to the shooting would be investigated by the relevant authorities.

Police had not responded by the time of publication.
