Durban - The death of jazz musician Oliver Mtukudzi is a great loss to the creative industries in South Africa.
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Arts and Culture Bongiwe Sithole- Moloi made the statement while conveying her heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mtukudzi.
The 66-year-old Zimbabwean veteran jazz musicians had been struggling with his health for over a month. He passed away on Tuesday.
"Tuku, as he was affectionately known, was in a league of his own, having dazzled millions of music lovers with his mesmerizing and soothing sounds. “He was one of the leading artists in terms of collaborations. Indeed, this is a great loss to the creative industries,” said Moloi.
"As a businessman and philanthropist, Oliver will be mostly remembered for his devotion to assisting people. He tried to reach people through support and his music. We keep his loved ones in our prayers," Moloi added.
