Durban — The South African National Civic Organisation Youth Congress (SANCOYC) in KwaZulu-Natal has shared that some of its members, as an organisation of young dwellers, are orphans whose parents and relatives were murdered in political-related killings.
This comes after, towards the end of their safety and security for peace in our community meeting held last night at Ramalinga Hall in Isipingo, they received the news that ANC Ward 14 branch deputy chairperson was killed.
The organisation sent its deepest sympathy to his family and the ANC.
It also sent its condolences to the family of the late Cde Thembelihle Qalani, the Inkatha Freedom Party’s Women’s Brigade secretary in Umzumbe Local Municipality.
SANCOYC coordinator Thulani Gamede said some of their members, as an organisation of young dwellers, are orphans whose parents and relatives were murdered in political-related killings.
“We have thousands of young dwellers-headed households with a bleak future as a result of the lack of access to quality education and other socio-economic opportunities that must be enjoyed by the youth in a democratic society,” Gamede said.
He called on government departments, the private sector and non-governmental organisations to offer support to the orphans of victims of politically-related killings.
“These young dwellers have bleeding wounds inflicted by an abnormal society,” Gamede said.
He said despite the fact that politically related killings have become part of our daily lives, as SANCOYC, they believe that they can still turn around the situation.
He also said we should build a united front against crime. This must be a campaign that no one can ever have a reason not to be part of. This is a campaign we wish should have no spectators, no observers and no bystanders.
“It’s literally a battle for survival,” Gamede said.
