Durban - Three people were killed in two separate crashes in the north and south of Durban.

In the first incident, two people were killed when two vehicles crashed in a head-on collision on the R102 between Umkomaas and Scottburgh on Sunday night.

The KwaZulu Private Ambulance (KZPA) service responded to the scene and paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that two patients had sustained serious injuries while two had suffered minor ones.

KZPA said the patients were treated on scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment.

“Sadly two occupants had sustained fatal injuries and succumbed to their injuries before emergency services arrived,” KZPA said.

Earlier, Medi Response spokesperson Paul Herbst said on Sunday afternoon a car, bike and truck collided, leaving one dead and four injured in Shakas Head.

“Medi Response paramedics worked to manage the scene. Unfortunately, the motorbike rider sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene,” Herbst said.

“A further four persons travelling in the light motor vehicle, sustained moderate to serious injuries while the truck driver escaped unharmed.”

Herbst said the injured were stabilised at the scene before being transported to nearby medical facilities.

He also said the police were on the scene and would be investigating further.

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed that police had received a complaint of a collision on the R102 Main Road in Shakas Head at 6.10pm.

“On arrival at the scene, they noticed two stationary vehicles and a motorbike in different spots and a body of a male lying on the ground. It is alleged that two motor vehicles and a motorbike collided leaving a motorbike driver dead,” Ngcobo said.

“A case of culpable homicide was opened by Umhlali police for investigation.”
