DURBAN - Two people were killed in a single-vehicle crash in the Vryheid area, Northern KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday night.

The KwaZulu Private Ambulance (KZPA) service said it had responded to the scene following reports of a collision on the R69 Vaalbank.

Paramedics found a vehicle that had overturned multiple times.

Witnesses said the occupants of the vehicle were thrown out of the vehicle while it was rolling.

"Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that one patient sustained critical injuries, three patients sustained serious injuries and, sadly, one patient sustained fatal injuries and succumbed to their injuries before emergency services arrived," KZPA said.

The patients were treated on scene before being transported to hospital.

"Sadly, the critically injured patient succumbed to their injuries at hospital, despite the efforts of the paramedics and hospital staff," KZPA said.

Police had not commented at the time of publication.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian, believed to be 35 years old, was killed after he was struck by two vehicles on the M4 Athlone Bridge on Friday night.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said it was alleged that the man had been running across the road.

He said one of the motorists was injured and was treated on the scene before being taken to hospital by ambulance.
