Durban — A rock-throwing incident was reported in the south of Durban on Monday night.

The Montclair Crime Eye said that it received information about a rock-throwing incident from one of its members.

The member shared that a friend was driving past the Yellowwood Park bridge towards Montclair when a rock was thrown at her car by two men, in the hopes that she would stop.

The woman carried on driving and stopped at the circle at the top of Kenyon Howden, with a torn tyre and buckled rim.

It further stated that a kind woman stopped to see if she was okay and a gentleman that lives opposite stayed with her until her husband arrived.

“These thugs know we all travel that road, seeing it’s the only exit,” the information read.

“Ladies especially, please be on high alert”.

Meanwhile, an elderly man was killed after being hit by a car during a freeway robbery on Monday night.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said that at 11.16pm, Netcare 911 responded to a pedestrian-vehicle collision on the N2 near the Chesterville informal settlement, south of Spaghetti Junction in Durban.

Herbst said that it is believed that the driver of a light motor vehicle smashed into rocks that were placed on the N2 where the car was immediately disabled.

An elderly man in his late fifties got out of the car to inspect the damage when an unknown number of suspects jumped out of a nearby bush, robbing him of his belongings, Herbst said.

He said that while trying to escape the robbers, the man was struck down by a passing car.

“The gentleman was assessed on scene by Netcare 911 emergency care practitioners, however, he showed no signs of life and was sadly declared deceased on scene,” he said.

Herbst added that circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the Cato Manor SAPS.
