Durban - A car burst into flames and another was damaged on uMhlanga's main Lagoon Drive on Friday morning.

The fireball, which was believed to caused by a fault with one of the vehicles, occurred opposite the Pearls and Cabanas on uMhlanga's main road.

The uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct urged people to stay clear of the area if possible and proceed with caution.

Members of the eThekwini Fire Department and police officials were at the scene, trying to get the fire under control.

The UIP later they reported the site had been cleared and the vehicles removed. It said no-one was injured and there was only slight damage to the road.

The UIP remained tight lipped about the cause of the explosion, only saying it was a vehicle issue with one of the cars that caused the fire. They did however rule out arson.

The city's Metro Police have been approached for comment.
