DURBAN: The Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry is on a drive to improve cleanliness in the eThekwini Municipality.

The chamber recently put up a public notice asking its members and members of the public to help it to collect data regarding dirty streets in the municipality.

The state of the city has been a source of complaints for residents for several years and members of the outgoing council complained recently that the city was filthy.

“Please help us map where we need to allocate resources for clean-up efforts,” said the chamber in a statement.

The chamber said it was committed to addressing the issues of crime and grime in the city.

It said getting involved in this initiative as a business collective was a step in the right direction as it believed that in order to attract new investors and retain existing investors, the city needed to maintain a high level of cleanliness and neatness.

It said cleaning up the streets would ensure the health and safety of those living within the city.

“As organised business, we believe collecting this data is of paramount importance as the findings will help the city map out areas that require attention and ensure resources are allocated to clean up the city, and more importantly keep it clean.

“Working with the business community, the Durban Chamber aims to present all findings collected during this initiative to the city for attention,” it said.
