DURBAN - Internationally acclaimed music sensation, Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo, commonly known by his stage name “Nasty C” is optimistic that he has a lot to offer the music industry as he is yet to embark on another world tour.
Dubbed the Coolest Kid in Africa the 25-year-old multi-award winning artist grew up in Illovu township, far south of Durban.
Speaking exclusively to Sunday Tribune, ahead of his music tour kicking off on Saturday in Durban, Nasty C said he was inspired to join the music industry after gaining inspiration from his favourite artist, TIP, an American rapper known by his stage name T.I.
Nasty C, who is signed to Def Jam records - an American multinational record label owned by the Universal Music Group said that he has had a graceful time with the company as it has granted him access to greater responsibility and productivity.
His most profound experience was when his favourite rapper T.I. reached out to him.
“I remember when I was growing up I used to be mocked for my appearance and the way I dressed because of the caps, baggy jeans and oversized T-shirt. My dress code was inspired by hip-hop artists. You should always follow your dreams because if you do not then you are doing a disservice to yourself,” he said.
Nasty C is ranked among the most streamed SA artists on music digital platforms and he describes it as a great experience.
He said that shows the support he has globally.
He further explained that he no longer measures his successes through accolades, as the entertainment industry has been marred by a lot of politics and corruption.
“I am turning the house that I grew up in in Illovu township into like a gaming centre/studio - /content house kind of set-up. This sounds crazy, of course. If you have a dream out there, people look at you like you are crazy. I believe having a place like that where people can come and chill, it can allow them to realise their potential,” he stated.
Ahead of his Durban lag of the Ivyson Army Tour edition, Nasty C said that fans can expect a different experience to what they have had before.
“The Ivyson Army Tour will be more intimate, more themed. I did not pick big venues like the last time when I did the Ivyson Tour, so this time we are keeping it at a smaller audience,” he explained.
He said he would collaborate with more local artists, mainly those that are upcoming.
He brought along a supporting act and friend, Domani Harris, with whom he will be performing alongside through the tour in the country.
Nasty C will be performing in Durban, on Saturday, May 14 at the Durban Werehouse, Cape Town May 21, 2022, Pretoria June 3 and Johannesburg June 4, 2022.
