Durban – Fans of the legends in East London, Joburg and Pietermaritzburg will have the opportunity to hear live the R&B songs that dominated the charts both locally and abroad in the 1970s and the 1980s.

This is a special tour as the group celebrated their 60th anniversary last month.

Sithembiso Dlamini from Mfundo Enhle Enterprise, a Communications and Event Management company based in Pietermaritzburg, and organisers of the show, said the company had over the years successfully brought other international music stars including Chris Walker, Regina Belle, Oleta Adams, Glenn Jones, Howard Hewett, Syleena Johnson, Brian Simpson, Eric Darius, Alexander O’Neal, John Stoddart and Karyn White and this time would be no different.

“The support we have gotten over the years for these types of concerts is overwhelming.

“Our concerts have attracted a mature audience who enjoy a toned down set-up, good music and vibey outdoor experience,” he said.

“We grew up listening to the Manhattans.

“Almost every household in South Africa has one or two albums of the Manhattans in their home.

If not, there is an uncle in the house who has played their music for everyone to notice.

The Manhattans featuring Gerald Alston are celebrating 60 years together, and we felt why not bring them over to celebrate their 60th anniversary with their fans in South Africa.”

The R&B stars will arrive in the country on September 28 and they will visit the Drakensberg where they will be treated to a Gala dinner.

Among many things, they will be meeting Pietermaritzburg mayor Mzi Thebolla and visiting the Cascades Mall for CD signings before jetting off to their first show in East London on September 30.

The Pietermaritzburg show will take place at the Royal showgrounds on October 1 and the final show will be at the Carnival City in Joburg.

“The Manhattans featuring Gerald Alston are a Grammy award-winning group and have released many sing along hits. It will be a great pleasure and experience to see them performing those hits live,” said Dlamini.

“Tickets sales are going very well, the general access initially issued has been sold out and we are left with Golden Circle tickets which are also selling fast since we are in the last week before the concert. We urge patrons to secure their tickets earlier to avoid missing out on this epic event.”
