HAPPY New Year to Cape Times readers. Gauging from our ring-around, there’s still tickets to be had so do get onto the phone or internet and make those reservations. The two big party precincts are: Long Street and The V&A Waterfront. We are gearing up for an extended New Year’s weekend of festivities, so where possible, we have indicated what is on until Sunday. Most coffee shops, restaurants are open – and of course the beach is open – and free. Salute 2016!

No set menu, the usual ala carte prices apply at both, but coupled with the signature Zingara gees. Café Paradiso (Kloof Str 021 423 8653), The Sidewalk Café (Vredehoek, 021 461 2839), Café Mozart (Church St 021 424 3774 ) and Company Gardens (Queen Victoria Str 021 423 2919 ) are trading today (Dec 31) until 4pm.
The Company Gardens is open tomorrow – on New Year’s Day – the only store in the group to be open. Good to know. Great spot for a New Year’s cocktail, smoothie or cappuccino.

Alexander Upstairs(Strand Street). Sashay into 2016 with owner-operators Ed van Kuik and Nick Spagnoletti and team at Alex Bar’s NYE party from 7pm. Tickets include “an expanded aperitivo buffet and the parlour room will be transformed into a boutique dance floor with sparkly tunes from mystery DJ Stockings. Baxter(Rondebosch). Theatre On The Bay(Camps Bay). There are a range of NYE ticket options available to see Pieter-Dirk Uys’ wacky and highly entertaining, Die Van Aardes Van Grootoor: The Musical. The Fugard(Harrington Street). The last show of the superb comedy-drama, Bad Jews is on at the Fugard tonight- at 9.30pm. Tickets are R130. Artscape(Foreshore). If you want a NYE to remember, try to get seats for Singin’ in the Rain splash zone – the first three rows- where the audience gets wet from “rain” coming down on the stage. Kalk Bay Theatre and Restaurant(Kalk Bay). The KBT usually hosts a full-on NYE bash but is closed tonight and tomorrow night.
