SOUND Action and Flamedrop will release a 36-artist tribute double album to poet Ingrid Jonker in May. The release will also be available in download format, plus limited edition vinyl.

Titled Die Kind Is Nog Jonger(The Child Is Still Younger), the CD will be release in association with Simone, the daughter of famed local poet.

Die Kind Is Nog Jonger will house 36 artist’s/bands’ adaptations of her work specifically for this project, commemorating her tragic and untimely suicide 50 years ago.

This tribute album hopes to surpass the inherent entertainment value, expanding to preserve Jonker’s legacy, her work, language, history and culture.

Jonker’s passionate poems are re-invigorated by a wide variety of musicians in a number of genres – from acoustic to pop and rock, electronic, metal and more.

The three dozen adaptations include popular and new artists, as well as legends, veterans, award- winners, expatriates and beyond South Africa (including England, Germany, the USA). It is also not strictly Afrikaans, with several English translated versions included.

The artists and their songs include Anton Goosen on Plant Vir My ‘n Akkerboom, Jennifer Ferguson on Windliedjie(live), Kalahari Surfers on Klein Hande, Inge Beckmann on Korreltjie Sand, Beeskraal Revival on Verlore Stad, Ingrid Jonger and Tim Parr on Toemaar Die Donker Man, Ernestine Deane on Die Kind Wat Doodgeskiet Is Deur Soldate By Nyanga, Falling Mirror on 25 December 1960, Terminatryx – Ontvlugting, Stefan Strydom and Gert Vlok Nel on Ingrid and Abraham van Geenbybel on Donker Stroom.

Rambling Bones also feature on Summer (For Simone), Andrew Kay on Fragment, and hear Mike Dickman on I Went In Search Of My Body, Tonia Möller on Man En Vrou, Wilde Junge (Wild Youth) on Police Protection Guaranteed, André Van Rensburg on Liedjie Van Die Troubadoer, The Slash Dogs on Lied Van Die Graf Grawer, The Sighs Of Monsters on Drawing and Die Naaimasjiene appear on Mama.

Listen to Robbi Robb from Tribe After Tribe on Face Of Love, Jim Neversink on Bitterbessie Dagbreek, Daniel Eeuwrick on Vir Uys Krige, Somerfaan on Ontnugtering, Anne Van Schothorst on Ek Het Gedink, Ivan Kadey on Tokolosh, Radio Rats on Deep Dark Introverted Girl, Die Kruis on Die Kind Wat Doodgeskiet Is Deur Soldate By Nyanga, Eckard Potgieter on Ontvlugting, Victor S. With all the songs of the release already recorded and supplied by the artists, all that remains is the CD reproduction. For this purpose an Indie GoGo crowdfunding campaign has been set up to involve the public.

This will be an investment with many perks attached to each contribution tier – from instant Mp3 downloads and the double CD, to Flame In The Snow books (love letters between Jonker and fellow writer André Brink), and original artwork from acclaimed artists Vernon Swart (whose ocean scene appears on the album cover).
