NOW is the time to ensure your place at the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival(KKNK), as tickets are already being snapped up and Oudtshoorn’s many guest houses, hostels, outdoor rooms, campsites and hotels are running out of space at rapid speed.

Rhode Snyman, CEO of Kunste Onbeperk and organiser of the KKNK, says, “At the 22nd anniversary of the KKNK, there will be plenty of entertainment for young and old, with highlights such as Heidi and the Zoid Afrika Afskopkonsert(kick-off concert).

This year’s festival takes place from March 24 to 30, during national school holidays, and over the Easter weekend.

“We will build on the winning recipe of the last two decades, thus ensuring visitors an authentic KKNK experience. As times change, the festival has to change with it. Festivalgoers can expect many new innovations.”

According to Snyman, pop-up theatres are one of the new concepts on show.

“Pop-up theatres are an opportunity for festival-goers to sample art on-the-go; art like people have never seen before.”

Beyond established performances and pop-up theatres, the festival will offer a range of entertainment, from classical theatre and comedy to performances by the country’s biggest music stars. The Rivierbuurt, with its family-friendly atmosphere, promises to fun for everyone who steps through the gates. Productions such as The House of Bernarda Alba starring Antoinette Kellerman and the Afrikaansvatter, with Hemelbesem and Coenie de Villiers, should not be missed. Also be on the lookout for performances and exhibitions by this year’s Kunste Onbeperk honorary members.

Snyman adds, that the festival office is a hive of activity as festival-goers look to book their tickets and secure accommodation way ahead for the week-long festival.

l The complete program is available at www.kknk.co.za. Book: Computicket, Shoprite/ Checkers and House & Home. Also book accommodation online.
