Cape Town – The suspected Kraaifontein serial rapist who has been on the run from the police has been nabbed 30km from his house in Mfuleni.

Police spokesperson Andrè Traut said: “A 36-year-old male was arrested and detained on Monday after detectives tracked and arrested the suspect to an address in Extention 3, Mfuleni.”

The man is alleged to have raped five eight year old children - four girls and a boy - in Wallacedene.

Angry parents and residents on Sunday night tore down his shack in Masondo Street.

The parents yesterday welcomed the arrest and called on the law to take its course.

A parent, whose identity is being withheld, said he was relieved that the man was in custody.

“I can now sleep at night because him being on the loose was keeping me awake at night.

“Every time I heard something or footsteps outside I would rush to check because I had fears that he would come back and kidnap the child.

“My only prayer is that he gets what he deserves and all I want is justice for my child and all the other children he has raped and victimised, both known and unknown.”

The suspect who worked as a security guard at one of the nearby retail stores, is alleged to have raped his victims in his shack.

Traut said it all happened between Saturday April 2 and April 11.

Community activist Linda Phito welcomed the arrest.

“The law must make an example of this man, he has deeply angered and saddened the community.

"It is now up to the justice system to restore the dignity of these children that has been stripped by this monster."

The police said the man will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged.
