A motorcyclist believed to be in his twenties was killed following a collision with a light motor vehicle on the Tygervalley Road in Durbanville on Monday.

Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the body of a man lying in the middle of the road. Bystanders had already begun CPR on the patient.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said the man was assessed and found to have sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. He was declared dead on the scene. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Meanwhile, a couple of observant Metro Police officers arrested a motorist on a culpable homicide charge at the weekend, the City of Cape Town said.

"On Friday, officers on patrol along the N2 spotted a car driving on the wrong side of the road between Baden Powell Drive and Spine Road. They gave chase and managed to get the driver to stop.

"Not only did they detect the smell of alcohol on the man’s breath, but one of the officers also noticed fresh blood and hair on the vehicle, as well as damage to the windscreen.

"A call to the control room confirmed that a hit-and-run accident was being attended to by Macassar SAPS near the Engen garage on the N2. The 51-year-old suspect was arrested and handed over to SAPS to investigate whether his vehicle was involved in the accident.

"Elsewhere, Metro Police arrested 28 suspects for driving under the influence, possession of drugs and possession of stolen property. This included the arrest of three suspects in Sea Point who were spotted breaking into a car.

"Camera operators noticed two males loitering near a red Toyota RunX, before making off with a green box and handing it to a female suspect, who hid the box in nearby bushes.

"SAPS and Metro Police officers who responded recovered the toolbox containing a hammer drill and arrested the three suspects."
