Cape Town - Three people were injured when a Coca-Cola truck collided with six vehicles near George on Tuesday.

The cause of the accident is yet to be established.

Police spokesperson Christopher Spies said emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene after a delivery truck and six vehicles collided.

“Three occupants sustained injuries and were taken to hospital by ambulance.

“Reports available also indicates that two horses in a trailer of the Volkswagen Amarok at the time of the accident are also receiving attention. The N2 was closed and traffic redirected via Old Place while the cargo of the delivery vehicle were loaded on another vehicle and for mopping-up operations on scene,” he said.

Spies said Knysna police have opened a reckless and negligent driving docket following the accident.

Head of Reputation & Regulatory Affairs at Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) Motshidisi Mokwena said they were co-operating with authorities.

“Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA) can confirm a multi-vehicle accident which occurred on the N2 highway near Knysna at approximately 12.15pm on Tuesday.

“According to available information, a CCBSA truck was one of the vehicles involved in the incident, which occurred near Knysna’s Kamdeboo Avenue. Emergency services responded to the incident and helped clear the highway.

“CCBSA is co-operating fully with police and other relevant authorities who are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident,” Mokwena said.
