CAPE TOWN - Condolences have come in for murdered Piketberg farmer Hendrik Pistorius whose body was found in a bin in the area.

Police said they were investigating murder, farm attack and robbery.

Land Reform and Rural Development Minister Thoko Didiza said they learnt with shock about the incident.

“The killing of farmers and farm workers has a negative impact on the agricultural sector,” Didiza said.

She called on police to do whatever it took to apprehend the perpetrators.

“I wish to call upon for the improved relationships between farmers, farm workers, neighbouring communities and the police in order to put a stop to these senseless killings.

“I wish to convey my sincere and deepest condolences to Mr Pistorius’s family, friends, and colleagues.”

Pistorius was a farmer in New Caledonia, Piketberg, in the Western Cape.

His body was discovered in a bin at his farm on Tuesday morning.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk said: “According to reports, SAPS received a call from the community about a person that was injured.

“When police arrived on the scene, a body was found on the premises, half-covered with a bin. He was already declared dead on the scene by medical personnel. He sustained blunt force trauma against the right side of his head. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the deceased's desk.”
