CAPE TOWN - Two of the three men facing charges of drug possession were granted bail in the Beaufort West Magistrate’s Court on Monday

Nkosinathi Gamede, 37, and Ndumiso Buthelezi, 27, are two of three accused of drug dealing and were granted bail of R50 000 and R20 000 respectively.

Blessing Pasi, 34, the third accused, will remain in custody until the trio appear in court again on October 8, after the matter was remanded for further investigation.

Gamede, Buthelezi and Pasi were arrested after they were found in possession of 33 500 mandrax tablets on the N1, travelling between Gauteng and Cape Town last week.

Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani said the trio were busted by the George-based Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation accompanied by the Beaufort West K9 unit.

“This followed a tip-off received about narcotics reportedly being transported from Gauteng to Cape Town,” Hani had said.

According to Hani, the trio were arrested after the Hawks worked “tirelessly to gather the information regarding the identified suspects and a white truck that was intercepted”.
