Cape Town – Good Samaritans have rallied to help Sekai Chitsuro, who is raising her disabled 5-year-old daughter in a one-room shack in Dunoon.

Chitsuro, 27, has battled to enrol Michaele, who has cerebral palsy, in a crèche.

Following an article in the Cape Times, Chitsuro said she received a wave of support.

“To those who have come into my life to help me, may God bless you for everything, I can’t thank you enough.

“I don’t have the words to express just how grateful I am. We have suffered for a long time,” she said.

Willson Tarusarira, a PhD candidate in health and rehabilitation studies at Stellenbosch University, was referred to Chitsuro by a group of concerned mothers in Dunoon.

“The challenge that remains now is fighting the stigma associated with any form of disability. This fight requires a more concerted effort from all members of the public.

“This must not be left to non-governmental organisations alone.

“Refugee mothers of children living with disabilities have extra challenges that other local mothers whose children are living with disabilities have,” he said.

Anyone who wishes to assist can contact Chitsuro at 0653254696.
