Cape Town – The two suspects who appeared in court on Wednesday in connection with New Monwabisi Park five murder, will join a third accused in the dock on Friday.

NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said Thembani Kobe and Sipho Mgijima appeared at the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, charged with five counts of murder.

This follows a mass shooting at New Monwabisi Park in Endlovini, Khayelitsha on March 14.

“Kobe is also charged with illegal possession of a firearm, and illegal possession of ammunition which is linked to the mass murders,” Ntabazalila said.

State prosecutor Advocate Madoda Peter told the court that they will oppose bail, as Mgijima was arrested in Cala in the Eastern Cape and Kobe has a pending case of illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition against him.

“The accused are also charged under Schedule 6, and they told the court that they are not applying for bail at this juncture,” Ntabazalila said.

The case against the two accused was postponed to May 13, where they will join Madoda Zwayi, a third accused in the case.

The case against Zwayi, who is applying for bail, was postponed for arguments and judgement.
