Cape Town – A 22-year-old woman is recovering in hospital after being wounded in a shooting in Kuils River on Tuesday.

Law Enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason said the woman was apparently not the intended target of the shooting but was struck by one of three bullets fired by a shooter.

City Law Enforcement Undercover Unit officers teamed up with their uniformed colleagues of the Rapid Response Unit after they received information about a shooting in Van Riebeeck Road and responded to the scene where the woman had been wounded, Dyason said.

“Upon following up the information, they spotted a blue sedan vehicle with two suspicious males in the area and observed the vehicle.

“While observing the vehicle, they received follow-up information that the male responsible for the shooting had entered the blue vehicle. Based on that information they approached the vehicle,” Dyason said.

Law enforcement officers found a firearm with two rounds in it in the vehicle

“Witnesses came forward and identified one of the males as the shooter. Two suspects were arrested and escorted to Kuils River SAPS,” Dyason said.

Police spokesperson Nowonga Sukwana said a case of attempted murder was opened for investigation.

One suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

“The woman is in a stable condition,” Sukwana said.
