CAPE TOWN - A Macassar woman was stabbed to death when she tried to protect her younger sister from a 16-year-old boy who was allegedly attempting to sexually assault her.

The boy has since been arrested for her murder. Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said the suspect will appear in court once charged.

The boy allegedly attempted to sexually assault the 14-year-old when her 25-year-old sister stepped in on Wednesday.

Van Wyk said: “On Wednesday, at 7am, the Macassar SAPS complaint vehicle received a complaint of a stabbing at Trinidad Street, Macassar. On arrival, they found the body of a 25-year-old female (who) was stabbed on the right side of her face. She was declared dead on the scene. A murder case was opened for investigation.

“Sterling investigations by members led to the arrest of a 16-year-old male, who was detained at Macassar SAPS,” said Van Wyk.

Community activist Peter Helfrich said the perpetrator must face the full might of the law.

“The family was in deep pain. The incident left the community in shock, the mother could hardly speak, but when she did, she spoke about her daughter and what a wonderful human being she was.

“This is a very sad day for this community, but more so for the family. Something like this should never happen to anyone, and as a community, we must take a firm stand against criminals. We will no longer allow this type of criminality to continue in this ward,” said Helfrich.
