Minimum wage for domestic workers increased

Johannesburg - Minimum wages for domestic workers would increase next month, the Labour Department said on Monday.

Depending on the municipality, employees working more than 27 ordinary hours a week must earn R2 422.54 or R2 205.17 a month.

Last year domestic workers earned between R1 993.82 and R2 230.70 a month.

Domestic workers include housekeepers, gardeners, nannies, domestic drivers among others.

The department also announced that the minimum wages for cleaning employees would be R19.38 or R16.41 an hour depending where they worked.
