Cape Town - South African award-winning teen author, Stacey Fru, will be recognised on Wednesday in Cameroon for her literary works.

The 15-year-old international multiple award-winner will be honoured in Yaounde by the Minister of Arts and Culture, Bidoung Kpwatt Ismaël, who will bestow her the Cameroon Order of Merit.

“I am excited to be recognised out of home once again. This recognition comes at a good time when I want to let the world know that my sixth book, and a full length novel of 260 pages, has been published.

“I am truly honoured that as an African child, my works are being recognised in different countries at different levels. What a great way to end 2022,” said Fru.

At the age of seven, the Joburg-based literary child whizz wrote her first book, “Smelly Cats”, without her parents’ knowledge.

She became the youngest author to have her book approved as suitable learning material for primary schools in South Africa.

One of her books is available in Braille and Daisy (Digital Accessible Information System) formats as well.

Fru, also a child activist, has won more than 20 international and national awards and recognitions.

She bagged the Highly Commended nomination for being at the forefront of literacy, safety and security for African children for the past years.

Her achievements include becoming the face of the African Union (AU) and International Labour Organisation (ILO) 2021 International Campaign for the Elimination of Child Labour #EndChildLabour.

Through The Stacey Fru Foundation, Fru gives to underprivileged and inaccessible children in the form of books, clothing, computers, food and learning sessions.
