Cape Town - A National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) advocate was shot dead, while in his vehicle, in Kleinvlei on Saturday.

Advocate Vukile Gontsana recently joined the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), as a state advocate.

He started prosecuting permanently at the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court, moved to Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court, Parow Regional Court, and Blue Downs Regional Court.

At the time of the shooting, it is believed he had been driving an e-hailing vehicle. Police have launched an investigation into his killing.

Advocate Gontsana will be remembered for his dedication to his work, his love for his soccer team (coaching youngsters), and for his family. Advocate Gontsana graduated from the University of the Western Cape and joined the Athlone Justice Centre. He later registered for the NPA Aspirant Prosecutor Programme in George,” said NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila.

He said the NPA in the Western Cape was also mourning the passing of Monica Lesimola, who passed away following a long illness and hospitalisation. She was an admin clerk at the DPP office for many years.

“She will be remembered for her warmth, humbleness and dedication to her work. Advocate Mornay Oscar Julius succumbed to illness on Sunday, after spending some time in hospital,” said Ntabazalila.

Advocate Julius started his prosecutorial career in George, after graduating from the University of the Western Cape.

“He grew his reputation as a fair, even-tempered and formidable opponent. He later was appointed at the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, in the Western Cape, where he continued to serve as a formidable advocate. He will be remembered for his love of family, his infectious laugh, his unrelenting cross-examination skills, his gentleness and his generosity of spirit,” said Ntabazalila
