Cape Town - Police made a massive abalone bust on Thursday afternoon. 

Two vehicles were searched during a road block, and police discovered 37 bags of abalone.

The value of the abalone was yet to be determined. 

"Our crime prevention initiatives in Bothasig this afternoon (Thursday) proved fruitful when two vehicles were searched during a road block that was held in De Grendel Road," police spokesperson Andrè Traut said. 

"The three male occupants of the two delivery vehicles, aged in their fifties were arrested for being in possession of 37 bags filled with abalone. The quantity and value are yet to be determined by DAFF (Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

"Once charged, the suspects are due to make a court appearance in Goodwood to face the charge against them," Traut said.

In June, police seized abalone worth R2 million and in another bust, R2.8m worth of abalone was seized.
