Cape Town - Supporters of President Cyril Ramaphosa who demonstrated outside the Cape Town City Hall on Tuesday, have rejected the section 89 Phala Phala report, and called for his second term.

This follows the release of the report, which found that Ramaphosa had a case to answer regarding the millions of rands that was allegedly stolen from his private game farm in 2020.

ANC MPs were set to vote on whether Ramaphosa should face impeachment proceedings on Tuesday.

Police had to remove chanting Ramaphosa supporters from outside Cape Town's City Hall, where the sitting took place.

Speaking at the demonstration, ANC member, Desiree Judge, of the Breede Valley Branch, said they believed Ramaphosa was the right man for the job.

“We are here to come and support Cyril Ramaphosa to get a second term. We believe in him. We are very proud of our president and he must stay as the president. Nothing must change,” she said.

Another ANC member from the Kraaifontein branch, Mkholisi Mpukumpa, said they rejected the Section 89 report.

“We are supporting Ramaphosa and the ANC. We are also rejecting the panel report, they did not do their job, they relied on hearsay. You cannot come out with a report and then make conclusions without any proper investigations. We are not saying we are against the law but the correct processes must be followed.”

But ANCYL Dorothy Nyembe branch chairperson, Sinethemba Hlatshaneni, maintained that Ramaphosa should step down.

“I still maintain my point, in fact Mcebo Dlamini covers me very well that Cyril is a clown, a puppet of white monopoly capital that is only there to maintain the status quo.

“ Under his leadership and administration our situation as black people has worsened, unemployment is sky-rocketing and black people are living below poverty lines. So why would I want such a person as my President?” asked Hlatshaneni.
