POLICE officers Sergeant Mogoru and Constable Mnisi have been hailed for successfully helping a woman deliver a newborn baby girl on Sunday in Roedtan police station outside Modimolle, Limpopo.

The young mother came to the Community Service Centre complaining about labour pains at about 1.30pm. Mnisi was on duty and contacted Mogoru who was on patrol duties but rushed back to the station.

The duo collaborated to assist the woman in giving birth in the boardroom of the station. The members at the same time summoned an ambulance which immediately came and transported the newborn and her mother to the hospital.

Mogoru said she understood the risks involved in all these incidents but that they were often faced with situations where they have to perform duties beyond the normal SAPS mandate in order to save lives. During all these incidents, she used her own emergency kit and resources.
