CAPE TOWN - Wife murderer and former property mogul Jason Rohde received a reduced prison sentence when the Supreme Court of Appeal handed down judgment in the matter on Tuesday.

Rohde – who was convicted of murder and defeating the ends of justice – appealed against his conviction and sentencing but the SCA upheld his conviction and set aside the 20 year prison sentence he was handed by the Western Cape High Court in 2019.

Rohde, currently out on R200 000 bail and who had to previously furnish a R1 million bank guarantee, has seven days to report to a correctional facility .

If he does not hand himself over, a warrant of arrest will be issued.

In judgment documents, Judge Halima Saldulker said there were no compelling circumstances to depart from the minimum prescribed sentence.

Saldulker setenced Rohde to 15 years for murder and 3 years for defeating the ends of justice.

The sentences will run concurrently.

Rohde murdered his wife Susan at Spier in Stellenbosch while attending a conference and rearranged the crime scene in an attempt to make it seem as if she committed suicide.

The couple’s marriage turned stormy after Susan learnt of her husband’s affair with property agent Jolene Alterskye – who also attended the conference on the weekend Susan was murdered.
