CAPE TOWN - Six people died after a car and a taxi collided on the N1 Highway on Monday morning.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Forensic Pathology Services (FPS) spokesperson Deanna February confirmed their services were responding.

“The Western Cape Government Health’s (WCGH’s) EMS are responding to an incident which involves a light motor vehicle and a taxi which collided on the N1, 30km from Beaufort West, in the direction of Cape Town.

“A call for assistance came through to EMS’s communications centre at 10.06am,” February said.

Six people sustained fatal injuries and died on the scene, she said.

“Two ambulances and a rescue vehicle was dispatched and are on scene. WCGH’s Forensic Pathology Services officials are on their way to the scene.”

February said the organisations extended their condolences to the families and friends of the dead.

On Sunday, ER24 responded to a scene after a bakkie rolled down an embankment from one road to another on the Gillooly's interchange in Germiston at about 8pm.

“The driver, believed to be in his late 30s, managed to self-extricate from the squashed cab,” ER24 said.

He had suffered serious injuries and was treated with advanced life support interventions before being taken to hospital.
