CAPE TOWN - An e-hailing driver was dragged out of his vehicle before being robbed of his bank cards and cash after responding to a request in Saki Mthembu Street in Victoria Mxenge, Philippi.

Police have since arrested a 19-year-old on a charge of hijacking. The suspect appeared in the Athlone Magistrates court on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson FC Van Wyk said: The driver stopped at the address and was approached by suspects who dragged him out of the vehicle and fled the scene with the vehicle, bank cards and cash.”

Meanwhile, in Nyanga three suspected murderers aged 21,24 and 26 handed themselves over to the police on Monday. They were charged with the murder of a 38-year-old man they allegedly stabbed when following an argument on Sunday.

“The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to death due to the extent of his injuries,” Van Wyk said.

Stop and search operations in Basboom Street, Delft South, led to the arrest of two suspects, aged 28 and 30, found in possession of zip guns with ammunition.

This was a day before officers arrested a teenager for possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition in Ravel Street, Delft South on Monday.

“The members received information from the community about four suspects that are robbing people. They approached the scene on foot and upon arrival on the scene, they saw the suspects who fitted the description. When the suspects saw the police members approaching, they started to run, firing gunshots at the police members, and they fired back wounding one suspect. The 17 year old suspect was apprehended and found in possession of a 9mm Star pistol with ammunition,” the police said.
