Cape Town - A 17-year-old was arrested in Table View after he was found in possession of alcohol worth more than R10 000 last week.

The teenager was arrested after police officers who were on patrol noticed a vehicle driving recklessly between the informal dwellings, nearly hitting the new station commander, police said.

Police spokesperson Captain Adriana Chandler said officers noticed a crate of empty beer bottles on the back seat and requested permission to search the vehicle.

“The owner gave permission, and the vehicle was searched. In the boot of the vehicle they found six crates of beers, which were still unopened. When questioned where he obtained the alcohol from, he gave his co-operation and indicated where he bought it, at a legal outlet in Sunningdale, for which he could produce a receipt,” she said.

Upon escorting the 17-year-old to his home, the discovery of more alcohol was made.

“Upon escorting the driver, arriving at his home in Site 5, officers were granted permission to search the premises. It was clear to officers that the quantity of alcohol was not for personal consumption only,” said Chandler.

The 17-year-old suspect was arrested and taken to Table View police station, where he was processed and released into the custody of his uncle.
