Cape Town – District Six claimants have been warned to be vigilant of falling victim to unauthorised companies promising housing in District Six.

District Six Working Committee (D6WC) chairperson Shahied Ajam said he has reported an estate agent to the national and provincial claims commissioner for allegedly offering claimants registration for the area’s third-phase housing development.

Ajam said he was made aware of agent Reza Rajie placing advertisements, as well as the sale of two properties in Zonnebloem.

Approached for comment, Rajie said his agency was having a meeting today regarding the properties, adding he would revert to the Cape Times.

Ajam said D6WC were outraged when they were informed about the ads.

“There are more than 3 000 claimants waiting to return and this person, who has no involvement in the restitution process, is attempting to come in and sabotage our efforts. People must be warned about this farce. This is our promised land that we have been waiting far too long to return to,” said Ajam.

Rural Development and Land Reform spokesperson Vuyani Nkasayi said the department would investigate.
