Cosatu is demanding that ALL national sport matches be shown live on SABC TV.
This includes the Springboks’ international games that are taking place. The fact is that the national matches must inspire our young children from all communities to want to be part of the national team and want to play the game.
The people who can afford DStv are not the only South Africans, as poorer communities should also be able to see national sports.
How can the SA Rugby Union or any other sport code deny South Africans the pleasure of watching an international game featuring our sportsmen and women.
This is the kind of immoral behaviour that our leaders allow, because they are greedy for money ahead of patriotism.
Cosatu is demanding that the game be displayed live on SABC TV otherwise we will run a campaign against DStv and Saru, for privatising the South African interest.
This blatant act will not be tolerated by Cosatu members and we will boycott DStv and call on the government to stop this monopoly that DStv has over many sporting codes.
Cosatu gave a deadline of September 25, failing which we will start plans to disrupt all national games that are part of the present rugby series.
