Unbelievable to see what's going on next to The Castle

I often use Strand Street adjacent to The Castle when coming to or leaving town.

It is unbelievable to see what is going on next to The Castle. By the look of things, there is an informal settlement going up there, people make fires and urinate in public and one gets the impression it is now a free-for-all.

I don’t think this piece of ground ever gets cleaned because the filth is everywhere. Tents and shelters are being erected and washing hangs wherever possible.

It amazes me one of the major roads in and out of the city is being allowed to deteriorate into such a state.

I have been in touch with the authorities at The Castle and the councillor for the area and have been told the area would be fenced in sometime in the future.

In the meantime, the area is deteriorating by the day. If I am correct, this is where the Cape Town Cycle Tour will start next year and this will not be a pretty picture to show to the world.
