Cape Town - A 40-year-old man who handed himself over for the murder of Muizenberg SAPS captain, Siphumeza Lusasa, is expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Lusasa, who was attached to the Muizenberg SAPS Support Services, was stabbed to death along Spine Road behind Lingelethu police station on Saturday evening, leaving his colleagues reeling in shock.

The Hawks took over the investigation. Hawks spokesperson, Zinzi Hani, said the suspect handed himself over to police on Monday.

Hani said Lusasa was on standby duty on Saturday, when he became involved in an argument with a woman, after which the woman’s boyfriend allegedly attacked Lusasa and stabbed him multiple times.

“A murder suspect, 40, was arrested yesterday, January 22, after he handed himself over to the Lingelethu police.

“It is believed that Lingelethu police received a complaint of a stabbing that occurred at Spine Road behind Lingelethu police station, Khayelitsha, at about 21:40 on January 21, where allegedly a Captain, Siphumeza Lusasa, 37, attached to Muizenberg SAPS Support Services, was stabbed.

“It is reported that Captain Lusasa was on standby duties at the time of the incident. It is alleged that the officer was involved in an argument with a lady where the suspect, who is the boyfriend to the lady, attacked the officer and stabbed him multiple times.

“A member of the public who was on the scene transported the officer to Khayelitsha Hospital where he was unfortunately declared dead on arrival.

“The suspect allegedly fled the scene. He later handed himself over to the police.

“He will be making his first appearance at the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, January 24, on a charge of murder,” Hani said.
