Durban — Four suspects are expected to appear in the Maphumulo Magistrate’s Court for attempted murder after they were arrested in uMhlanga and appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said that a joint operation made up of police officers from the Hawks, Cross Border Unit and the KwaZulu-Natal Stabilisation Team produced positive results when they arrested four attempted murder suspects at Cordia Crescent in uMhlanga on Thursday.

“An intensive investigation led police to the house in uMhlanga where the suspects aged between 25 and 31 were found hiding. The house was searched and police officers recovered a rifle, two pistols and 94 rounds of ammunition. A vehicle which is suspected to have been used in the commission of a crime was seized,” Gwala said.

She said the suspects were detained at the Durban North police station and will appear today in the Durban Magistrate’s Court for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

Gwala said the suspects were wanted for an attempted murder case which took place on October 5, 2022, at Bhamshela in Nsuze.

“It is alleged that a 41-year-old man was driving his vehicle when unknown suspects opened fire, wounding him in both his legs. He managed to flee the scene and reported the matter to the police. A case of attempted murder was opened at Nsuze police station for investigation,” Gwala said.

She said police followed up on information which led them to Durban North where the suspects were arrested.

“They will appear in the Maphumulo Magistrate’s Court soon for attempted murder,” Gwala said.
