Durban - Three fraud and corruption suspects were granted R6 000 bail after appearing in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Wednesday.

Police spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale said the arrests were made in KwaZulu-Natal, mainly in the eThekwini Municipality.

Mogale said the ongoing efforts to thwart corruption and maladministration within municipalities, and the country at large, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (Hawks), Clean Audit Task team and Serious Corruption Investigation embarked on take-down operations, netting suspects for corruption, fraud and contravention of the Public Finance Management Act.

“The suspects are under investigation for charges relating to fraud, corruption and flouting the prescripts of the Public Finance Management Act.

“Two of the three suspects arrested in eThekwini include a juristic person (were) charged and appeared in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court. All (three) accused, Akhona Ngundze, Amanda Mandy Wanda and their Zooloowood Projects were granted bail of R6 000 each. Case remanded to June 27, 2022,” Mogale said.

Hawks national head, Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya said: “I commend the investigation teams that are involved in securing the attendance of these accused persons in court. This is a demonstration of the level of commitment by our members. Those who commit national priority offences must know that more imminent arrests are on the cards and shall be executed without fear, favour or prejudice.”
